Nancy Mozzachio Files Lawsuit Against Cedar Realty’s CEO
Cedar Realty’s CEO namely Bruce Schanzer is now facing charges of pay discrimination and sexual harassment as filed by their former Chief Operating Officer namely Nancy H. Mozzachio. A judge in Brooklyn will soon be the one to decide if these charges must proceed.
Based on the lawsuit Nancy Mozzachio filed on November 2 to CEO Schanzer, she says that she finds Schanzer always leering at women as well as making comments that are not appropriate to them while in the workplace. Schanzer is used to calling Nancy Mozzachio ‘babe’ as well as commenting about her breasts. One time when she brought to her desk a coffee cup from Dunkin Donuts, she was commented by him to be bringing some double Ds to work. Furthermore, Schanzer is also accused of giving groping hugs that are unwanted to the one filing the case.
According to Nancy H. Mozzachio, when she files a pay disparity and sexual harassment lawsuit, she was fired by the company as a result. Come February 2016 when she was done getting some outside help for the sexual harassment case she was filing against the Cedar’s CEO, she was then terminated for her job. According to her, the meeting was canceled and then she was then terminated on the coming week.
By a 2015 external investigator probe, Cedar Realty decided to investigate these allegations. Even if these investigations were being done by the company, Nancy Mozzachio says that the investigator always stepped back when they were allegations of sexual harassment to Schanzer by the female employees. The Wall Street Journal has even made mention about one of the employees being asked by Schanzer what color of underwear she is wearing. In order for the investors not to know about this matter, the company has decided to pay the people who have filed some complaints against Schanzer about their being sexually harassed.
Nancy Mozzachio has found some success in the company. While she started off in the year 2003 as the director of leasing and in the year 2004 as the vice president of leasing, she then worked her way up until the year 2014 where she became the chief operating officer. In terms of her complaints, the company is giving her only a smaller bonus and a lower salary as chief operating officer in comparison to their chief financial officer that should not be the case as she must be the one receiving a higher amount. Cedar Realty expectedly denied the charges and as per findings, the allegations were without merit.
Even if this is the outcome, Nancy H. Mozzachio will still not back down. She will continue fighting for the right of women working in a safer workplace.
